SIHH 2014: Grande Reverso Night & Day
The Reverso saga continues in 2014 with an innovation that will delight connoisseurs. For the very first time, one of the iconic models in a collection that continues to meet the same demands of reliability, absolute readability and useful functions, is appearing in a version equipped with an automatic movement.
Many devoted fans of the swivel case will doubtless salute the arrival of the latest newcomer to the family – especially since it features all the key signature traits that have raised to authentic cult status a timepiece developed in the 1930s at the request of British colonial army officers stationed in India.
2014 sees the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre lay a new milestone in the epic ongoing adventures of the Reverso, by offering watchmaking enthusiasts a model embodying the quintessence of the Reverso while providing all the comfort and serenity of an automatic movement.
A single glance is enough to instantly recognise the spirit of the watch with the reversible case in all its pristine purity: a silver-toned dial framed by the three distinctive gadroons; applied black Arabic numerals apart from the 6 which is replaced by a useful complementary display. Blue facetted baton-type hands for the hours and minutes, as well as a triangular day/night pointer in the same colour. Since Jaeger-LeCoultre consistently combines a keen aesthetic sense with an ingenious knack for facilitating information read-off in all circumstances, the dial of the night/day indicator is divided along its centre by a horizontal line marking off the lower part of the Clous de Paris guilloché motif, while linking numbers 6 and 18 so as to visually separate daytime and night-time hours. For Jaeger-LeCoultre, simplicity and subtlety thus clearly continue to work hand in hand.
An automatic Manufacture movement
The Grande Reverso Night & Day is powered by in-house automatic Calibre 967/B. Like all movements developed and built within the workshops of the Grande Maison in the Vallée de Joux, it features outstanding sturdiness and reliability. Its balance oscillates at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. It comprises 200 parts and provides a comfortable 42-hour power reserve, thus enabling its wearer to savour the carefree pleasure of strapping on a watch in the morning that has maintained an accurate display of the time while its owner enjoyed a good night’s sleep. Not to mention the assurance that his forearm movements while engaged in normal daytime activities will be enough to give the mechanism of the Reverso the energy required for its noble timekeeping mission.
The swivel case of the Grande Reverso Night & Day is available in pink gold or in stainless steel. In both cases, it is water-resistant to three atmospheres. It comes with a black alligator leather strap secured by a clasp made in the same material as the case. The dial is topped by a sapphire crystal, whereas the case-back, in keeping with the finest Reverso traditions, remains open to its owner’s imagination. He will thus be able to personalise it at will by having it engraved with initials, a monogram, an evocation of a memorable event or a fond memory. There has never been a more pleasant and convenient time to choose the Reverso as a lifetime companion.
